B.F. Skinner and EdTech
In 1954, Harvard professor B.F. Skinner presented his teaching machine. The original audio is exactly the same as the the audio in the newer 2014 version in which the visuals have been manipulated by adding iPads, apps, and other modern devices. Listen as Professor Skinner explains the benefits of learning by machine. Sound familiar? Every EdTech salesman with a product to hawk has uttered a similar rendition of Skinner's presentation.
If "personalized learning " or EdTech didn't work in 1954, why is it being touted sixty-plus years later as THE innovation to invest in? The innovation that will save our public schools? This would be funny if it weren't so serious.
